The Open Government Partnership (OGP) is a voluntary multilateral initiative involving more than 70 countries, created on September 20, 2011 through the Declaration on Open Government, which seeks to improve government performance, encourage effective participation and improve the responsiveness of governments to their citizens, through the implementation of strategies on transparency, access to information, citizen participation and the use of new technologies, which generate concrete and visible changes.
Since the consolidation of the AGA in September 2011, Colombia expressed interest in participating in this initiative. In 2012 our country presented the first National Action Plan for Open Government related to the following challenges: improving public services, increasing public integrity and better management of public investment. Since 2012, different social organizations have joined forces through the Open Government Committee (AGA Colombia) in order to participate in the process of implementation and monitoring of this initiative.
Participating in the Open Government Partnership facilitates the rapprochement between the National Government and civil society, with emphasis on guaranteeing real respect for fundamental rights and increasingly higher levels of quality of life.
