More than fifty years of armed conflict have profoundly affected the lives of people in Colombia. Today, survivors of the conflict and communities affected by the violence have lost their livelihoods and experience anxiety, rupture of social ties and lack of access to public services and basic necessities. Also, in this context, different forms of discrimination, stigmatization and lack of opportunities persist. Women, youth, people with diverse sexual orientations, people belonging to indigenous or Afro-descendant peoples, the elderly and people with disabilities are the most vulnerable to segregation in different areas and demonstrate the enormous challenge facing the entire population of victims and communities affected by the conflict in Colombia.
The Spinning Lives and Hope (WLH) Program of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), implemented by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), assumes that the resilience of conflict survivors and their communities can only be achieved by understanding and addressing their most pressing needs.
Therefore, www.hilandocomunidades.com is born as a participatory and community communication initiative that seeks to disseminate the actions undertaken by different actors that have formed the Hilando Comunidades Network to improve the mental health and well-being of communities; to exalt survivors; and to promote the reconciliation of families and the rehabilitation of community relations.
