La Silla Vacía is a digital media founded in 2009 with the purpose of offering the best independent journalism in Colombia, transparent, digital and without barriers for those who want to actively participate in building a better country.
More than covering the news of the day and going to press conferences, we focus on those stories that really describe how power is exercised in Colombia: on the characters that pull the strings of power, on the strategies to achieve and maintain it, on the ideas and interests that underlie the great decisions of the country.
We believe in journalism that is in the place where things happen and that can tell the story because it was there or because it spoke with the protagonists; rather than making judgments, we seek to provoke questions; rather than simplifying things, we seek to make them more complex; rather than pleasing a large audience, we seek to provide inputs so that those who have influence - in their families, friends, students, communities, media, businesses, social organizations or government - have better criteria to understand what is happening in Colombia and to influence its future; rather than belonging to power, we seek to reveal how it operates and how it affects people's lives; rather than allying ourselves with a political faction, we include as many perspectives as possible. Rather than narrate isolated events, we find connections between events and place them in context. La Silla Vacía strives to always produce high quality content, which enriches or sets the conversation.
