Mapeo Sistématico

The Arturo and Enrica Sesana Foundation was created in 2006 with the aim of contributing to the welfare of young people and the elderly in Colombia, especially in the health and education sector.

As of July 2019, it was proposed to allocate resources in a strategic manner, which is why the focus of the projects was established in the system of old age and aging in Colombia. In turn, in the month of July, the construction of a map that expressed the Foundation's understanding of the old age system in the country began, which was later integrated by various actors who expanded the mapping, including older people, academics, entrepreneurs, economists, social leaders, caregivers, geriatricians, gerontologists, journalists, funders, international networks, anthropologists, psychologists, public officials, among others.

The objective of this map is to facilitate the understanding of the functioning of the aging and old age system in Colombia. To this end, the challenges facing the country with respect to the welfare of the elderly are sought, the contributions of various entities are articulated to build knowledge, the strategies implemented by the Foundation are improved and recognition among individuals and organizations is promoted.

For the mapping process, the Foundation selected more than 500 actors from the public and private sectors, including representatives of social organizations, as well as 239 elderly people and 258 young people and/or adults. The methodology followed in the construction of the map is a systemic approach, which gathers an accumulation of narratives and experiences, to subsequently form working circles in which the identified opportunities are addressed in order to generate transformations in a logic of learning cycles.

The construction of the map is based on the knowledge generated by the experiences, formulating an understanding of the current system of old age, while also understanding the dynamics that integrate it and the roles played by the members of the system. Thanks to this understanding, it is also possible to find opportunities to improve the system.
